Short biography

Ceren Bozkurt, born 1994 in Malatya, is a Turkish folk musician and theatre musician. She plays bağlama, cello, guitar, duduk and kabak kemane, and sings. Since 2021 she has performed in productions at German theatres, currently at Maxim Gorki Theater, Thalia Theater Hamburg and Schauspiel Essen. Unser Deutschlandmärchen, which she plays live, was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen 2025.

Biography

Ceren Bozkurt grew up in a family with a strong folk song tradition, with the sound of the bağlama in the house. As a child she taught herself the bağlama first, then the guitar. At thirteen she began her training at the State Conservatory of Malatya İnönü University; her classical principal instrument became the cello. She studied music education at Erzincan University, moved to Germany in 2017 and completed her master’s at the Center for World Music, University of Hildesheim.

Her first engagements took her to Theater Bonn and Theater Osnabrück. Today she weaves the musical texture of stage productions with cello, traditional instruments and voice; in her own concert projects she joins Anatolian folk music with the sounds of today. Her latest release is the EP Visâl (2025).
